Just for fun!  An Art Deco look back to the Roaring Twenties. Louise Brooks was the silent film actress that popularized the stylish bobbed haircut of the twenties.

What? Another Coke Poster?

These stunning starlets of the silent silver screen around the turn of the last century really fascinate me. I guess it's because it's hard to imagine someone born in 1893 could look so beautiful. Last evening around 6 PM our baby Robins, one at a time, left the nest. It has been a wonderful experience to watch this Robin family grow and develop in such a short time.

A Four Winns Experience

Through the winter months back in London, Wendy regularly visits the gym for an aquatic aerobics class. One of her friends from the class, Maureen, and her husband Bryan recently purchased a 315 Four Winns Express. Since Bryan has never owned a boat before the broker at Bridgeview Yachts (where they bought the boat) was supposed to give them a couple hours of instruction, but they as yet have not received it so they asked Wendy and I to join them for an instructional ride.

Understandably Bryan has been hesitant to take the boat out by himself but only time will allow him to grow accustomed to the "feel" of his boat.  At the beginning of our mini-cruise he was quite nervous and tended to oversteer but like anything else, the more you practice the more comfortable you become.  The boat with its twin engines maneuvered well as we idled around the marina and over to Sarnia Bay and the other marina. We had some tips that we learned over the years and Wendy showed Maureen things like how to arrange the dock lines so they are ready for your return.

After our boat ride Bryan and Maureen came over to our condo for drinks, hors d'oeuvres and dinner.  The weather was hot and slightly overcast with no wind so it was a good day to enjoy boating and our outdoor deck.

A Dinner Party At Jake and Erin's

Jake takes a break from "Chef" duties on the back porch of the church.

We drove from Point Edward to Strathroy for a dinner party at Jake and Erin's. The occasion was a visit by Jake's dad John who rode all the way from Vancouver, BC on his Harley, and Jake's aunt (John's sister) who flew in from Palm Springs, CA.

Tashmoo.

There's a street in Sarnia named Tashmoo Avenue. There's also a  Tashmoo Avenue in St. Clair, Michigan and Algonac, Michigan has a Tashmoo Lane. The marina on Harsens Island where I bought my boat "Phoenix" back in 2002 is called Tashmoo Marina.

The places with this unusual name all have one thing in common. They were all visited by the Tashmoo.

What is the Tashmoo?

The Tashmoo (named after Tashmoo Park which was located where Tashmoo Marina is today) was a sidewheeler steamboat on Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron. It was famous for being one of the fastest ships, at the time, on the Great Lakes.

Our drive today takes us to Harsens Island and Sans Souci where Tashmoo Park used to welcome thousands of people traveling here on the SS Tashmoo.

Tashmoo means "meeting place" and the Indians played a significant part in the history of this area. These colourfully costumed people are from Walpole Island which was never ceded to Canada or USA and thus is neither part of US or Canada but is generally considered in Canada.
