Wendy's Giant Yucca Spear

Yucca, the wild edible, spelled with 2 c's, is in the asparagaceae family, and is related to asparagus. Apparently parts including the asparagus-like spears are edible.

This plant has persevered in our garden for many years but this year it has outdone itself. As you can see it was pruned back substantially last year so the energy in the roots must have been focused in this new shoot. 

At four foot five inches it is so tall maybe the rabbits can't reach it to chew it off. To read more about this amazing looking plant CLICK HERE.

UPDATE June 26...

Lots of great weather and the Yucca has been thriving.

It grew another 5 inches from 53 to 58 inches in 4 days.

UPDATE: July 3

A week later  and another 5 inches gained.

It's really starting to branch out and getting ready to flower. Exciting!

A Father's Day Surprise...

 

Wendy got up early and worked for hours detailing and cleaning my car from inside out. 

I had been thinking it would be great to get my car detailed and my wish came true.

The car looks and smells like new! Thanks Wendy for making my day!

Another surprise... Erin ordered wings from my favorite wings spot and had them delivered. Thank you so much Erin. 

Wendy prepped up some nice jumbo shrimp to complement the wings. Wow!

It would be the best Father's Day ever if you were here too Erin.

Belated Happy Birthday Erin And Early Father's Day

Sunday was Erin's birthday but she has been very busy at work rescuing turtles. She and her team has safely moved nearly 2000 turtle eggs to incubators in London. This annual project is part of her work with the St Clair Region Conservation Authority. You can read more about it through a previous (2018) blog posting if you CLICK HERE.

Today Erin had the day off so we invited her to come by and visit, socially distancing of course. 

Erin's favorite: frozen creamed strawberries with Peek Frean crumb crust.

I loved her lobster sandals so I gave her a pair of Billy Bass sandals to go with them. They were too small for me but fit her quite well.

 

The weather was absolutely perfect and the pool was warm and inviting. 

What a beautiful day for a combination Birthday and Father's Day outdoor party.

Visitors Today...

A pair of Mallards dropped by to say hello to the Flamingo today. I wonder if they are the same ones as last year and if so, what did they think of this weird, big, bird in their favorite pool?

Blood Moon Rising

Last week Tim jr. alerted us to look at the moon. I took this remarkable picture at the time. Just today I noticed an article explaining the reason for its strange appearance.
