Artsy Pics for Today - Port Dover

We took the boat to Port Dover on Friday (more pics to follow). This was one of our most awesome boat rides - up the Lynn River. The sights were varied from the boat graveyard to the busy riverside marinas to the old and new cottages as well as nature at its best further upriver from town.

The Most Expensive Pizzas Ever

Today is the day we celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day. In 2010, a programmer traded 10,000 bitcoins for two Papa John's pizzas.

Today, those coins would be worth more than 82 million USD.

A Walk At Longwoods Park

We try to get to Longwoods every year for a Spring walk so this holiday Monday we arrived around noon. This year, being a little late in the season, Wendy was worried we'd missed the Trilliums. Not to worry. They were as beautiful as ever. Spring came late this year after a persistent Winter.
 

A plaque on one of the pioneer houses shows William Burch. We wonder if this place has anything to do with Wendy's ancestry as her great grandfather was named William Burch and we know he lived near the reservation on the Melbourne Road.

Nope, we didn't miss the Trilliums this year.

Wendy sports her lovely hat she received from Kee Dewdney at Newport Forest last week. Her hat from the "Res" ties in with the Burch house and her indigenous peoples' heritage. Ha ha.

A shot from the landing and the remains of what appears to be the footings of an old bridge.

In the background the trail leads up what probably was a roadway at one time. It leads to a farmhouse where the park manager lives now. This bridge abutment was likely added by the park some time after their acquisition of this 63 hectare property in 1964 and served as a foot bridge before the wheelchair accessible Millstream Trail walkway in the distance in the picture below.

Looks like it could be a Wood Duck House, but I assume the ducks know what it is.

Wendy identifies a Mayapple flower on the side of the trail.

It was a perfect day for a walk with abundant sunshine and temperatures in the lower 70's F.

The Battle of Culloden

On Sunday we drove to The John E Pearce Provincial Park and the historic Backus House near Wallacetown to visit with Pete and Donna at the annual Battle of Culloden Reenactment.

It pays to take more than one "group shot".

The pipers entertained us before the commencement of the battle.

Seamus (pronounced Shamus) always puts his heart and soul into the commentary of the battle. He is the central figure in arranging the annual event here at Backus House.

The ambush by the Brits at the Battle of Littleferry was the theme of today's reenactment.

This year we had a good vantage point directly behind a cannon.

Sadly the Jacobites and Pete's group lose the battle - again.

The defeat of the Jacobites in this 1746 battle was pivotal in the overall defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Scots.

Scotland is part of the U.K. today because of the loss of these battles back in the 1700's
