First Snow of the Season.

Starting with flurries last night, the snow changed to blizzard-like white-outs early this morning. Although the main weather system appears to have moved off to the south shore of Lake Erie, we are experiencing streamers off Lake Huron.

Toronto memories.

The Toronto subway opened in 1954 and a few years after, my mom took my sister and I to ride on it. It was a big event because we also took the train the 215 miles down from our home in North Bay. At first the subway only went from Union Station to Eglinton Ave. A ride in 1954 cost 10 cents. I don't know if you still can, but back then you could get off and take the stairs over from the northbound to the southbound and vice versa, as many times as you wanted without having to pay again. I bet my mother tired of doing this sooner than we did but I do remember we spent "some time" on the subway train. We also, of course, did other touristy things like going to the top of the Imperial Bank Tower, the tallest building in the British empire and shopping at Eaton's and Simpson's. As I recall we stayed at the King Edward Hotel where we later met up with dad to drive back north.

 My "artsy" watercolour picture for today started from an old black and white postcard. As I remember, the subway cars were dark red and the inside was a washed out hospital green.  How exciting it was back then!

Port Stanley With Fries and Southwest Winds

We drove down to Port Stanley because the weather was almost summer-like and for mid-November that is quite amazing. Shirt-sleeve weather and a strong breeze stirred up Lake Erie and provided a beautiful view as we indulged in some Mackie's fries and an Orangeade.

Ha ha! Just checked our cruise at VacationsToGo:

Twelve thousand dollars US for the two of us. Ha ha, I don't think so! Sometimes, we've noticed, the internet pricing of cruises goes berzerk on vacationstogo.com. We have seen ridiculously low prices and today as you can see - ridiculously high prices. I don't know why but I guess if the computer sees only suites left at a high price it still considers the discounted price as a deal and I suppose it would be if you had been prepared to spend $28,000 for two for a 10 day trip. Not in my league!

Trump Win Predicted By Simpsons 16 Years Ago.

Who’s writing for The Simpsons, fortune tellers?! Over 16 years ago on Mar. 19, 2000, an episode called “Bart to the Future” ran, which featured an adult Bart who is a total loser, and his sister Lisa who is now the first “straight female” President of the United States. However, once she gets into office she has to deal with “quite a budget crunch from President Trump.” What the what?!

That’s right, 16 years ago, The Simpsons predicted that Donald Trump, 70, would become president in the future. At the time, he hadn’t even started The Apprentice yet! But it turns out that it wasn’t so much a random prediction as what writers thought was the common sense outcome of the worst possible world. “That just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom,” writer Dan Greaney told The Hollywood Reporter of the crazy coincidence. “It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane.”

“The important thing is that Lisa comes into the presidency when America is on the ropes, and that is the condition left by the Trump presidency,” Dan explained. “What we needed was for Lisa to have problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could, and that’s why we had Trump be president before her.” He called it a “warning to America,” and clearly we didn’t take it seriously.

According to the article, that’s not the only episode where Donald is president, either. He was also in another episode called “Trumptastic Voyage,” but that was just one year ago. The picture above is from the more recent episode. If The Simpsons actually do tell the future, then the first female president should come four years from now.

The Donald Trumps Hillary... Now, God Help Canada!

Hold on to your hair-doo. We're in for a wild roller coaster ride indeed.

I think the surprise came about because Americans were embarrassed to say, even in the polls, that they were voting for Trump. It wasn't entirely "wanting Trump" but "not wanting Hillary" that pushed him over the top. How this new "King of the Realm" will treat Canada and our "pretty-boy" leader remains to be seen, but I think we're in for a very bumpy ride. "You're fired Dems".  

Only trouble is: Now, we in Canada will be stuck dealing with all the idiot Democrats that said they would move to Canada if Trump is elected. As if we need even MORE liberals.

Home-Made Sausage Is On My List... Amazing Book Find!

Next time I'm in USA I intend to buy some Morton's Tender Quick and try my hand at home-made sausage and cured meats. Tender Quick is not available in Canada (that I can find) but seems to be still sold at Meijer's Department Stores in the States.  I found this most remarkable book put out by the Morton Salt company (who make Tender Quick to this day) in 1941 which is very good reading for anyone interested in how our meat is/was produced probably still now and over seventy years ago.

Fall Spectacular at the Ponds.

A beautiful fall day so we had chicken wings at Kelsey's and went over to the Westminster Ponds to enjoy the marvelous colours of the foliage on a warm, 55 degree, November day.
