For us it’s been a very quiet Christmas. This year we stayed home and relaxed as far as that is possible, even at the risk of insulting our relatives by not attending their Christmas dinner get-together. This year; as we had agreed previously, we were NOT going to get caught up in the craziness of the season, traipsing all around the countryside. Maybe it’s our age but we just can’t take the stress anymore.
Too relaxing - even for Grandma Gene and Jake
Boxing Day was even quieter as we returned grandma to Waverley Mansion in time for her supper. No shopping for us, we mostly snoozed.
Today, Wendy roasted a turkey and we plan to have Erin and Jake back over for Christmas II (as our son Tim calls it) this evening.
This past year has been particularly stressful for Wendy. Her mother has, because of her deteriorating condition, placed a great responsibility upon her shoulders. The huge job of attending to Gene’s needs and appointments, combined with the horrendous world economic nightmare has worn us all down.
This calmer approach is like an experiment. It is certainly a new experience in navigating through the Christmas Season. I hope it may even lessen the stress at the end, when after New Year’s Day, there usually seems to be a major downer when the expectation and hype of the season abruptly ends. We’ll see if it's any better this year.
