I shot the picture as the sun was setting. I liked the rippling effect of the reflection, like everything was melting in the summer heat, so I inverted the image and worked on it to arrive at this surreal result.

The Boat Races

 We arrived around noon, just in time to have the races put on hold to allow the passage of two freighters. The races didn't resume until after 3 pm because one freighter had to rotate in a 270 degree turn before backing onto the Mueller Docks next to Imperial Oil. This maneuver took quite a bit of time. Unfortunately the weather started to look bad just before the races. But failed to put a damper on the festivities.

The delay gave us time to socialize with several condo friends and neighbours that had made their way over to Centennial Park.  The races finally resumed to the delight of the spectators. CLICK HERE to see the Can Am Sarnia/Port Huron International Powerboat Festival web page.

200 Miles Of Things We Don't Need - Day 2

 Expecting visitors, we hit the Farmers' Market and got some fresh vegetables.
 

Our good friends David and Reenie are traveling to Sault Ste. Marie and stopped here on their way.Reenie brought some lovely flowers.

They arrived around 1:30 and we had lunch at the Quay Street Brewery. The boats were revving up for the time trials so conversation was difficult but the outdoor deck was a great vantage point to watch the boats get placed in and removed from the Black River.

Wendy, Reenie, and David on the upper deck at Quay Street Brewery. David was Best Man at our wedding over 41 years ago.

After lunch we drove the Garage Sale route down the St Clair River ending up past Algonac. Reenie found 2 cute pyjama bags and Wendy found 3 bar stools. I'm sure we missed the "early bird" bargains but the weather was perfect, the scenery was good, and there were still bargains later as the prices were marked down.

At one place there was an estate sale and we got to go right inside the house to see their amazing view.

David got talking with an older gentleman who allowed us to tour his boathouse and look at his spectacular old Chris Craft built locally back in the early 50's. The finish was like a piano.

We crossed back into Canada at Algonac on the ferry to the Walpole Island Indian Reserve and drove back to our condo on the Canadian side via the St Clair Parkway.

200 Miles Of Things We Don't Need - Day 1

Antique Garage Sale Route: On our first stop right in Port Huron, we found an almost brand new, automatic pool cleaner complete with connection hose for $20. (Value $200) At another place nearby we found a perfect "field bag" to replace the one that Erin has nearly worn out.

A little later, up the Lakeshore Road (M25) we found an Atlas 150 pasta machine still in the original box. For this we paid $3 and it shows on-line at Target for $70.

 We ended our twenty mile drive north in Lexington where we had lunch (Subway) in the park by the water where we bought 2 books. One illustrated instruction and recipe book for the pasta machine and another one,  a quilter's notebook/binder with extensive notes handwritten inside. We plan to give the latter to our friend Ann when we see her next week Gary and Ann are coming up from TN to stay for a couple weeks at their "River House" in Corunna so we'll see them then.

I have done another "artsy" Coca Cola poster for Ann's Coke collection room and I plan also to give her my old Coca Cola cooler that I used to keep in the trunk of my 1948 Oldsmobile.

One of the things we love about this particular garage sale is the ability to bumble into the driveways and lanes of houses that would normally be off limits and out of sight from the main road.

You never know what you'll see.

What an opportunity to view some interesting and beautiful properties along Lake Huron and the Saint Clair River

One obvious tip I have for you is to stay ahead of and avoid the "old lady tour buses".

The theme of the garage sale is antiques however real antiques are a rarity on the route.

 The traffic is quite heavy and this is just Friday.

Quaint and pretty scenes are  abundant along the lake road.

Dock Party

The weather cooperated with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid seventies. There was a good turn-out of about 35 or 40 condo residents and friends.

There was a "Best Hat" Contest.

What's that running up Mike's neck?

 Lots of variety on the buffet table.

My old bubble machine burned with our boat but today I bought a brand new one for the party.

We welcomed new neighbours from W24.

We all waved to the mounties as they slithered by.
