Duck on the Railing

You can see the water droplets from her recent dunk in the pool. She stayed, posing for me for several minutes before flying back in to the water.

She must like it here because she returns, same spot, most every day for a few minutes.

The Magic Gold Boots

You just never know the fun you'll have at MullBain Lodge. Our visit to Wood Lake this weekend was no exception. I took a pair of Magic Boots for John. He slipped them on and sure enough magic happened. I laughed until my eyes teared up.

"Tim, Pete, John... BAD Combination!"

Pete brought his deep fryer equipment and a nice 10 lb. Butterball Turkey to cook up for dinner. I brought a fowl, turkey hat for Pete for the occasion.
 

 Pete slowly lowers the whole bird into the bubbling pot.

After the initial wait for the oil to reach 325-350 F, the cooking part was only about 30 minutes for the whole turkey.

As usual, no one ever goes hungry at MullBain Lodge!

Waubaushene Ferns

These beautiful ferns were brought from Mabel Hamilton's yard near Waubaushene over 30 years ago. They seem to like their "new" home because they continue to come back in abundance every year.

Artsy Pics for Today - Port Dover

We took the boat to Port Dover on Friday (more pics to follow). This was one of our most awesome boat rides - up the Lynn River. The sights were varied from the boat graveyard to the busy riverside marinas to the old and new cottages as well as nature at its best further upriver from town.

The Most Expensive Pizzas Ever

Today is the day we celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day. In 2010, a programmer traded 10,000 bitcoins for two Papa John's pizzas.

Today, those coins would be worth more than 82 million USD.

A Walk At Longwoods Park

We try to get to Longwoods every year for a Spring walk so this holiday Monday we arrived around noon. This year, being a little late in the season, Wendy was worried we'd missed the Trilliums. Not to worry. They were as beautiful as ever. Spring came late this year after a persistent Winter.
 

A plaque on one of the pioneer houses shows William Burch. We wonder if this place has anything to do with Wendy's ancestry as her great grandfather was named William Burch and we know he lived near the reservation on the Melbourne Road.

Nope, we didn't miss the Trilliums this year.

Wendy sports her lovely hat she received from Kee Dewdney at Newport Forest last week. Her hat from the "Res" ties in with the Burch house and her indigenous peoples' heritage. Ha ha.

A shot from the landing and the remains of what appears to be the footings of an old bridge.

In the background the trail leads up what probably was a roadway at one time. It leads to a farmhouse where the park manager lives now. This bridge abutment was likely added by the park some time after their acquisition of this 63 hectare property in 1964 and served as a foot bridge before the wheelchair accessible Millstream Trail walkway in the distance in the picture below.

Looks like it could be a Wood Duck House, but I assume the ducks know what it is.

Wendy identifies a Mayapple flower on the side of the trail.

It was a perfect day for a walk with abundant sunshine and temperatures in the lower 70's F.
